Island of Kauai

Welcome to Wanderlust Wednesday.

This week we are traveling to my all time favorite place and one of the 8 beautiful islands of Hawaii. Having only gone there twice my love for Kauai grows with every visit and I'm happy to say I can't wait to make our 3rd visit soon.

Kauai is Hawaii's oldest island and the 4th largest island in the chain of 8 it's also the greenest island hence why it's known as "The Garden Isle" thanks to the wondrous rain forests that cover the around 97% of the island. Many know Kauai as "The Lovers Island" due to many newlyweds traveling to this quiet island for their honeymoon.

Kauai is home to thousands of wild chickens. Yes, when I stepped off the plane and saw thousands of chickens around I made sure to ask about the story of how the wild chickens got there. Ask a local if you ever venture out there it's quite an interesting story if you ask me. Kauai is also the home of Waimea Canyon State Park aka The Grand Canyon of the Pacific this canyon is 10 miles long and up to 3,000 feet deep. This marvelous island has beautiful crystal clear beaches, sea life that enjoys the waves just as much as local surfers do, flourishing gardens and so many fun things to do. For instance if you head there in early January- mid March you'll see the whales and dolphins enjoying the cool Kauai waters. From mid April-June the weather is quite pleasant so this may be the best time to visit. In June they host an event called "Taste of Hawaii" this event allows you to taste all the wonderful food Hawaii has to offer. I could go on and on about this beautiful island however I'd be writing for days so I'll end this post with a few if my favorite spots and attractions. The last time we visited we went ziplining through the vibrant forests, visited The Kilauea Lighthouse, went to the infamous blowhole, walked amongst taro fields and the deliciously beautiful coffee plantation, we visited our favorite beaches to name a few; Poipu Beach, Hanalei Bay and Brenneck's Beach. If you ever plan a vacation my advice is to plan one to the beautiful island of Kauai. @ Kaua'i, Hawaii
